Children's Dentistry

There is a common misconception that only tweens, teens and adults need dental services. Grant Family Dentistry’s children’s dental services are essential for your youngster’s oral health today and also in the future. The overarching aim of children’s dentistry is to ensure your child avoids complications in the months, years and decades to come. Such complications include but are not limited to tooth decay, tooth infection, cosmetic flaws and speech issues.

We are proud to provide a wide array of children’s dental health treatments and procedures. Our dentist is here to educate you and your child about how to care for teeth, gums and other components of oral health. This is the foundation your little one needs to develop healthy oral health habits, avoid tooth decay and maintain a beautiful smile. Our children’s dentistry services include the use of dental sealants that safeguard teeth with protection to stop the formation of cavities and function as a barrier against food particles and bacteria.

Keep in mind, your child will start to lose baby teeth within six months. The first set of teeth is lost by the age of 6 or 7. If your child is not provided with timely dental care, he or she runs the risk of oral decay and subsequent disease.

Teen's Dentistry

We genuinely enjoy the opportunity to provide dental treatments and procedures to image-conscious teens. Grant Family Dentistry is here to bring out the best in your smile as well as that of your teenager(s). This is a delicate period of life in which the focus is on image and self-confidence. Schedule an appointment for your teen at our office and you will find our team is caring, friendly and detail-oriented. The teenage years are the perfect time to form the optimal dental health habits, laying the foundation for dental health success in the years to come.

We provide teen patients with yearly dental check-ups, dental x-rays, fillings, teeth cleaning, polishing, scaling and preventative treatments including fluoride treatment and fissure sealants. Even if your teen tunes out your advice pertaining to oral health, he or she will likely listen more closely to our dentist. Schedule a preventive visit once every six months for your teen and we will provide invaluable guidance that helps your teen develop the optimal oral health habits for the healthiest possible teeth, gums and mouth in the years ahead.

Adult's Dentistry

Our adult dentistry services are quite expansive. We provide standard treatments along with cosmetic treatments, ensuring your oral health and smile aesthetic reach their true potential. This is your opportunity to receive a deep cleaning, teeth whitening, prevent infections and receive an oral cancer screening. Our adult patients are also provided with expert advice from Grant Family Dentistry’s oral health professionals.

Our team is here to remove the plaque from your teeth and gums, help you prevent the formation of tartar, fill your cavities and perform extractions when necessary. Additional treatments and procedures for our adult patients include dental crowns, root canal treatments, fissure sealants and emergency care.

Sealants

Dental sealants are quicker, easier and cause less discomfort than most patients assume. Sealants are beneficial for several reasons. For one, dental sealants help patients avoid fillings. The dental sealant process involves a cleaning of the tooth surface to ensure the sealant bonds correctly. The Grant Family Dentistry dentist inserts a small brush in a dental drill to scrub the surface of the tooth, cleaning out the grooves. This brush might be dipped in pumice to facilitate the cleaning. There are several different methods used to add dental sealants to the mouth including the air abrasion technique and an enameloplasty.

Once the tooth is cleaned, our dentist will apply etching gel to the area where the sealant will be positioned. The gel is added with a diminutive brush, a sponge and a cotton pellet. This material remains in place for upward of a minute prior to being washed away so the tooth surface is prepared for bonding with the sealant. A thorough washing is performed, the tooth is dried and the dentist adds the sealant to the tooth grooves, ensuring it sets by using a curing light. The final step is for the dentist to verify the sealant has properly bonded to the surface.

Ortho Screenings

Orthodontic screenings are a visual analysis of the mouth with the overarching aim of pinpointing occlusion abnormalities. This screening is accomplished with an orthodontic ruler and a tongue blade. Though ortho screenings are not diagnostic examinations, such examinations might be deemed necessary after the screening is performed. Younger patients should undergo an ortho screening by the age of seven. If your child breathes through the mouth, sucks his or her finger/thumb, has early/late loss of the baby teeth, finds it difficult to chew or has abnormal teeth, an ortho screening is of the utmost importance. Furthermore blocked, misplaced and crowded teeth also justify an ortho screening.

This non-invasive screening examines the teeth as well as the facial form. Asymmetries are identified during the child’s development so the appropriate treatment can be provided. The teeth will be closely examined so the dentist can note their alignment, the presence of lesions or other problems. Grant Family Dentistry recommends early screening as it is better to pinpoint oral health problems sooner rather than later, setting the stage for timely treatment during the patient’s childhood when teeth can be moved that much more easily.
